Our awards so far

As you may be aware, Inglehurst is currently on a journey towards becoming a Rights Respecting School with the hope of achieving our 'Silver Rights Aware' award.

We achieved our Bronze – Rights Committed award in September 2017 and since then, the children have been learning lots about their rights as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). We also discuss the ways in which we can respect these rights so that all the children access them and think about ourselves as global rights respecting citizens.

While no rights are more important than another, at Inglehurst we belief that these are some of the rights that matter most to us:

Article 28 – The right to an education

Article 12 – The right to give your opinion and the right to be listened to

Article 14 – The right to choose your own religion and beliefs

Article 17 – The right to access information that is important to your well-being

Article 24 – The right to the best possible health care, safe drinking water, nutritious food and a clean and safe environment.

How can parents support their child to learn about the Convention at home?

Take the time to ask your child what he/she has learnt recently regarding children’s rights

Discuss events in the news and media and think about how rights are being denied or respected

Discuss how your child or family can promote respect for rights or help those whose rights have been denied

Ask your child’s opinions on rights

Please take the time to read a copy of the Convention on the Rights of Child which can be found here.

If you would like any further information on this, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
